Michigan State football continues their trek on the recruiting trail this summer. With Pat Fitzgerald and his staff looking to bring Michigan State football back to previous glory, the staff hit the recruiting trail after the end of the spring game, and Max Bullough found a player that caught his eye. The former Spartan great was checking out Springtown (Texas) linebacker Rome Ewell, and offered him on Monday afternoon.

More About Rome Ewell

Ewell is a three-star linebacker hailing from Springtown High School in Texas. He currently ranks no. 1046 in the 2027 recruiting class, no. 95 at linebacker, and no. 134 in Texas, per the 247Sports Composite. He is the 11th-best linebacker in his state, slotting in two spots behind Bryce Breeden, a player that recently cancelled his MSU visit.

For someone currently outside the top 1000 in the composite, the film and numbers indicate otherwise. Ewell recorded nearly 150 total tackles for Springtown last season in Texas high school football, which is considered among the best and most loaded state for football talent.

Over his last two seasons, Ewell has recorded 213 tackles, 17 for loss, 4 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble, and a fumble return touchdown for good measure. Ewell is a heat seeking missile every Friday night.

During the spring, the talented linebacker runs the 100m and 200m dash for his track team, along with competing in long jump.

Who is Michigan State Football Competing With?

Ewell holds six other Power Four offers, with official visits set for four of them. He visits Houston on May 28, Louisville on June 5, Iowa State on June 12, and Boston College on June 19. He previously had a Kansas State visit scheduled, but has since cancelled. His other P4 offer comes from Arizona State.

The Spartans are his 19th offer, and first from the Big Ten. While it is far from a guarantee that Michigan State can get Ewell onto campus, let alone committed, he is an intriguing offer to monitor in upcoming months.

Spartans Searching for Linebacker Commit

Max Bullough and Joe Rossi have yet to land a linebacker during the 2027 class, with the Spartan defensive commitments coming in the form of defensive lineman Ohimai Ozolua and Jack Schuler and defensive back Ty’ire Clark.

Bullough has acquired top talent during his time with the Fighting Irish, so there is little doubt in the coach’s ability to grab a talented player throughout the next few months.

It is worth noting that the Spartans are heavily projected to land in-state target Lundon Hampton from Kenowa Hills HS within the next month. His official visit graphic lists him as a linebacker, per the athlete’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
