The nets have been scorched over the past three games for Michigan State basketball, and really the entire season despite the struggles from 3-point range.

Michigan State has really struggled to hit the deep ball and yet the Spartans still have one of the top scoring offenses in the Big Ten and are No. 54 in the country at 82.3 points per game. That’s good for fifth in the Big Ten.

Ten games into the year, that’s not just a fluke, that seems to be right where this team sits.

Tom Izzo has been trying to figure out how to get his team dialed in from distance and they’ve actually shot a lot better over the past two games, making 20-of-45 shots from 3-point range. And with that success from deep to start Big Ten play, Michigan State has officially accomplished an impressive scoring feat for the first time since Jaren Jackson Jr., Nick Ward, Miles Bridges, Josh Langford, Xavier Tillman, and Cassius Winston were suited up in the green and white.

In fact, Michigan State has scored 85-plus points in back-to-back Big Ten games which is the first time the Spartans have done this since 2018.

Any time you get compared to a team that ran other Big Ten foes out of the gym on a nightly basis and arguably had the most talent of any Izzo-coached team ever — at least in the starting lineup — you know you’re doing something right. The Spartans have also scored 85-plus in three straight games and in five out of the 10 games they’ve played this year.

The half-court offense — and just the offense in general — has struggled a bit in recent years, but with a fresh look at point guard and 8-9 guys who can score in double figures on any given night, Michigan State seems to be turning a corner.

It’s actually insane to think that this team is fifth in the Big Ten in scoring at 82.3 points per game while struggling from deep in 8-of-10 games.

Let’s hope Michigan State basketball continues to heat up from deep in Big Ten play because the conference title will be in play.
