Officially commit No. 2 in the 2024 Michigan State basketball recruiting class, Jesse McCulloch joined Kur Teng on Thursday.

Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball are red-hot on the recruiting trail after they received a commitment on Thursday evening from four-star big man Jesse McCulloch, a 6-foot-9 stretch-four from Cleveland who is a top-100 recruit in the country for 2024, according to 247Sports.

Michigan State beat out other finalists Alabama, Xavier, and Virginia Tech to secure the talented big man’s commitment.

McCulloch will bring a polished offensive game to East Lansing with a solid jumper that will make opponents have to respect him on the offensive end. McCulloch also has extreme toughness and a high motor that fits in perfectly with the standard of Michigan State basketball. He also helped lead his high school team Lutheran East to a 22-5 record and the Division 3 state championship this past season.

With most of our current frontcourt’s futures unknown with graduation and draft decisions looming, McCulloch will be heading to East Lansing at the perfect time to make an immediate impact as a freshman.

McCulloch is the second commit for Tom Izzo in the 2024 class, joining four-star shooting guard Kur Teng. The addition of McCulloch will catapult MSU’s 2024 class up to No. 6 in the country and No. 2 in the Big Ten behind only Rutgers in 2024. Teng and McCulloch will fit in perfectly with the incoming 2023 class and lineups with incoming freshmen Xavier Booker, Jeremy Fears, Coren Carr and Gehrig Normand have me feeling nervous for the rest of the Big Ten.

Locking in commitments from McCulloch and Teng this early in the 2024 cycle is massive as it now allows Izzo and the rest of the staff to devote their recruiting efforts elsewhere with a few big names still on their board. Five-star prospects Bryson Tucker and Flory Bidunga are names to keep an eye on as two guys MSU could go after hard now. Another name to keep an eye on is four-star legacy recruit Jase Richardson who is the son of Spartan legend and former NBA star Jason Richardson.

MSU will be one of the best teams in the country this season and will continue to be for years to come with the elite level of talent Tom Izzo is bringing in.

Anyone else ready for basketball season already? I know I am.
