Michigan State basketball gets a rematch with Northwestern on Wednesday night. Will the Spartans exact some revenge?

The end of the season is finally upon us. Senior night is here as Michigan State basketball plays host to Northwestern on Wednesday night. This game feels like a must-win for many reasons, including for their NCAA Tournament hopes and seeding in the Big Ten Tournament. How about we just keep it simple this time and just hope to get revenge on a team that MSU has already lost to?

It’s been a while since the Spartans and Wildcats have played, so before the game gets here let’s take a look back at how that game went then give a prediction for game two on Wednesday.

Game one recap

Game one between these teams took place in early January, and it was not one Spartan fans want to remember. Northwestern had control of the game all night long, and dominated the Spartans on both ends of the floor.

Northwestern had a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back from there. Usually Michigan State will at least make it interesting and get the game close at some point in the second half, but that didn’t happen this time. The Wildcats ended up winning 88-74 putting MSU in tough spot to start the Big Ten season.

Tyson Walker played extremely well, finishing with 27 points. Carson Cooper also had a solid game with 10 points and six rebounds. Other than that, nobody else showed up, leaving all Spartan fans very disappointed.

Game two prediction

I think this game on Wednesday will be the exact opposite of the first meeting. Michigan State has won 11 straight games on senior night, so that trend alone makes me very confident. But Northwestern has also caught the injury bug and will be severely limited.

Ty Berry, one of Northwestern’s best players, is out for the season. The Wildcats also have two other players that may be out due to an injury as well. The Spartans, on the other hand, are not dealing with any significant injuries. Sure Tyson Walker is slightly injured, but he will still see his normal minutes in this game.

All of Spartan Nation knows how important this game is, so MSU will have a loud crowd on its side. This time it will be Michigan State basketball that gets off to a fast start and cruises to a dominant victory.

Final score: Michigan State 81, Northwestern 65
