Michigan State basketball is likely to make the 2024 NCAA Tournament and the Spartan Shadows staff has projected its seed and run.
Everyone loves filling out and predicting the NCAA Tournament bracket, but not many predict how far their favorite team will go in the Big Dance in February. However, that’s exactly what our staff here at Spartan Shadows has done for Michigan State basketball.
Not only did we predict how far Michigan State will make it, but we also predicted what seed they will earn. Will any of us get both predictions right? Will we all be incorrect? The latter is probably more likely, but let’s give it our best shot.
Spartan Shadows staff predicts MSU’s tournament run
Daily MSU: MSU still has everything in front of them and can move their way up on the seed line. The best scenario sees MSU get to a 6-seed, but I think they’ll end up with a 7-seed. Similarly to last year, our guards will get hot and will lead us to the Elite Eight this time. Unfortunately, they’ll come up just short of a Final Four.
Levi Bright: I think we’ll end up as the 7-seed and make it to the Elite Eight.
Chris Norman: I say Michigan State ends up a 7-seed again. I think we also will end up making another Sweet 16. They have the mix to make a real run at it, I just see us getting a game where one part is off and we start slow then can’t recover.
Brendon Pricco: I think Michigan State will end up on the 7-line. The predictive metrics are there, really all MSU needs to tack on is Q1/Q2 wins. While there aren’t many opportunities left on the schedule for major victories, there are several very winnable Q2 games. This team is certainly capable of an Elite Eight run, and maybe more. However, right now I feel comfortable pegging this team for a Sweet 16 appearance.
CD’s Sports Takes: I have Michigan State as a 7-seed and I have them losing in the Sweet 16 again.
Connor Muldowney: I think Michigan State will get a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament and depending on the second-round matchup, I see the Spartans making a Sweet 16. The problem is, they’re good enough to make a Final Four, but inconsistent enough to lose in round one.
Tyler Dutton: I think they will rattle off a couple of wins to close the season and possibly one or two in the Big Ten Tournament. Fortunately for Izzo’s streak, that will be enough to get them a 9-seed, but I think they won’t make it out of the first weekend. If the 3-pointers are falling, they will take down the 8-seed in front of them, but then fall shortly thereafter in the Round of 32.
Liam O’Malley: I say MSU gets hot and makes a run in the Big Ten Tournament and steals a 6-seed. They also will make a run to the Final Four.
Summing it all up
Putting all our predictions together, the Spartan Shadows team has MSU coming in anywhere from a No. 6 to a 9-seed. Nobody sees Michigan State losing in the first round, but there are predictions from a Round of 32 exit all the way to a Final Four appearance.
On average, we have Michigan State basketball at 7.12 for its seed line with seven as the most common response. We also have Michigan State winning on average 2.38 games which would mean another Sweet 16 loss.
Selection Sunday is about four and a half weeks away and the Spartans still have everything to play for. The sky is still the limit for this team, but it just has to start playing like it more consistently. If the Spartans continue playing like they did against Illinois, I think they’ll be just fine.
