Three-star tight end Caden Piening holds nearly two dozen offers and he’ll soon be checking out Michigan State football.
Things have been relatively quiet on the Michigan State football front which is expected through February. New head coach Jonathan Smith has been doing a great job staying under the radar. I think I saw more of our last coach’s face in one random day then I have of Smith his entire tenure. Love that from the new staff.
Michigan State’s spring ‘game’ is approaching fast and the staff continues to work hard on the recruiting trail, identifying talent both in the state and the region.
On Monday, it was announced that class of 2025 three-star tight end/athlete Caden Piening will take an official visit to East Lansing on March 28.
Piening hails from Cincinnati, Ohio – a state that was recently neglected by MSU’s former recruiting staff. Ohio was always a breeding ground for overlooked talent during the Mark Dantonio era which was a factor in MSU football’s success from 2010-2017.
Peining stands 6-foot-4 and weighs about 200 pounds with plenty of room to grow with his frame. He’s been a varsity football starter since his sophomore season and also plays varsity basketball in high school. As a two-sport athlete, he’s very nimble.
In fact, 247Sports lists Piening as an athlete but he’s been regarded as a tight end when locking down his official. I would have to assume that is what the staff is pursuing him as. Given the success current Michigan State tight ends coach Brian Wozniak had with former Oregon State tight end Jack Velling (current Spartan), I’m excited to see the recruits he gets on campus.
We all know how long it’s been since Michigan State football has had a go-to, sure-handed tight end. Although former Spartan Maliq Carr was a freak athlete, it’s been years since the team has had a great tight end. The most recent I can think of is Josiah Price.
I’m excited to see this staff fill out the 2025 recruiting class.
