Michigan State football: 5-star DL David Stone plans official visit

Michigan State football will be getting an important official visit from five-star defensive lineman David Stone.

The nation’s fifth-ranked recruit is coming to East Lansing for a Michigan State football visit.

David Stone Jr. recently announced on his Instagram that he’ll be taking a visit to Michigan State from June 23-25, and if the Spartans could land him, it would be massive. Stone has been linked to both Michigan State and Oklahoma for months now, and although there are other schools in his finalists, it seems that it’s likely down to a two-team race.

Hopefully, this visit tips the scales in favor of the green and white.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Stone attends IMG Academy in Florida — one of the top schools in the country for football — where he plays on an excellent team against elite competition. He’s unanimously ranked a five-star defensive lineman prospect across On3, 247Sports, and Rivals. He’s also among the top players in the country regardless of position.

Landing a recruit like Stone would be massive for the Spartans. He would provide a ton of positive momentum on the recruiting trail for a program that desperately needs it. One would have to imagine that if an elite talent like Stone announced his intention to play for MSU, other high-profile recruits could follow.

He hasn’t set a commitment date yet, but I’d imagine it won’t be too much longer, as he’s a class of 2024 recruit and this is around the time a lot of prospects commit for the class. The 247Sports crystal balls are split between Oklahoma and Michigan State, although they’re currently in favor of the Sooners.

That being said, Stone has consistently had good things to say about MSU and Mel Tucker. It’s not hard to envision Spartans landing the blue-chip prospect, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
