Michigan State football landed three-star athlete Bryson Williams on Thursday night to play a “Deebo Samuel role” for the Spartans.

For the first time in a while, there was a bit of uncertainty and intrigue heading into a commitment for a top Michigan State football target.

On Thursday morning, three-star athlete Bryson Williams announced that he would be making his decision later that night. He took to social media at around 7:30 p.m. ET to reveal his commitment and the Spartans beat out Kansas, Pitt, and Harvard.

While many had been hoping for this outcome, no one really knew who the leader was as there were no crystal ball predictions on 247Sports for the Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary’s product.

And while he was being listed as an “athlete”, it seems like Michigan State is using that term literally with its plans for him.

That’s right, according to Justin Thind of 247Sports, Michigan State plans to use Williams in a “Deebo Samuel-type role” on offense. He will play out of the backfield, at receiver, and on special teams. Basically, he’s going to be a do-it-all weapon for the Spartans and if you know anything about Samuel with the 49ers, you know how intriguing that is. This means he’s going to be utilized heavily in all aspects because he’s that versatile.

Williams has great size at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds and he should be able to fit right in with the offense next year. Just imagine an offense with Aidan Chiles throwing the ball to Jack Velling, Nick Marsh, Jaron Glover, and Williams making plays all over the field. That offense would be considered “explosive” by just about anyone.

Jonathan Smith has done a great job of raising the talent floor of this program and this class is a perfect example of that. Williams is a really solid player and he will have a major impact on the program just like the rest of the 2025 class (no one is rated below an 86 on 247Sports).

Williams is now the third St. Mary’s prospect in the class to commit to Michigan State, joining Charles White and Jayden Savoury.
