Michigan State football is getting a big visit this weekend. Could we see the re-commitment of two recruits this cycle?
Between five-star David Stone, four-star Nick Marsh, four-star DeAndre Carter, and many more, the guest list for the last Michigan State football official visit weekend of June just keeps getting better and better.
It was confirmed by On3 that former MSU commit four-star cornerback Jamari Howard will also be taking an official visit to East Lansing this weekend.
Standing at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Howard is the 10th-ranked cornerback in the nation and hails from Miami, Fla. He holds an impressive offer list from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Miami, and Florida State, among others. Described as a ‘long, reactionary cornerback with foot speed and ball skills’, he is projected to become a multi-year impact player at the Power Five level.
Howard committed to the Spartans back on Sept. 26 but after months of very little news being shared from the coveted recruit, it was not surprising to see him reopen his commitment this past May.
Chop’s thoughts
Remember when head coach Mel Tucker said that ‘If you can’t recruit at MSU, you can’t recruit’? It’s time for CMT to put his $95 million where his mouth is. It is painstakingly difficult and quite rare to get a kid to recommit to a school. Tucker has the opportunity this weekend to do it twice. If he gets both Marsh and Howard to recommit after this weekend, I think the fanbase would look at this offseason in a completely different way.
Part of me is a little nervous MSU is falling back into old habits by getting these blue chip recruits on campus who they don’t have a legitimate shot at. Last June, that seemed to be the strategy for former GM Saeed Khalif; swing for the fences and you’re bound to hit a home run. The issue is last year they swung and missed on all of them.
I’m ready for a rollercoaster of emotions online throughout the weekend. I still think Tucker can get 10 commits this weekend if he simply lands a chopper at the 50 and gives away puppies as parting gifts.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chop
