Michigan State football has officially reached out to one of the best defensive linemen in the transfer portal, Tywone Malone.
I’ve said many times before that I believed Mel Tucker was going to hit the portal hard this spring to find some of the top talent in the nation to play for Michigan State football.
It looks like that’s coming to fruition.
A week after being named as a team involved with Alabama receiver Tyler Harrell and Grand Valley State star wideout Jahdae Walker, Michigan State has reportedly reached out to one of the best defensive line prospects in the transfer portal.
According to a report from Hayes Fawcett, the Spartans have reached out to Tywone Malone.
The Ole Miss defensive lineman is not only a massive prospect and the former No. 63 overall recruit in the 2021 class, but he’s also on the open market after entering the portal this spring. Lane Kiffin, the self-proclaimed Portal King, couldn’t retain one of his best recruits from his 2021 class.
And Tucker has come calling along with the likes of Michigan, USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Florida State, Penn State, and Miami.
Malone was one of the top recruits in his class and he also happens to be a multi-sport star at 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds. No, he won’t be walking on to Tom Izzo’s team, but rather he’s a star on the diamond. Jake Boss and the Spartans could use his services, especially after this breakout season that MSU baseball has been having.
Although he didn’t have the most productive Ole Miss career, recording 13 total tackles, two sacks, and two pass breakups in 14 games, he could still be a star in the college ranks.
He’s a top-tier athlete for his size, running a 5.20 40-yard dash out of high school, according to his 247Sports profile, and he’s only going to get better. Diron Reynolds and that defensive line room would benefit massively from this kind of addition.
Beating out those other big-time programs won’t be easy, though.
