A day after hosting Indiana cornerback transfer Kobee Minor, Michigan State football is hosting an LSU cornerback.

Just one day after hosting honorable mention All-Big Ten cornerback Kobee Minor from Indiana, Michigan State football is hosting a cornerback from LSU who appeared in 13 games as a true freshman in 2023.

Jeremiah Hughes is in East Lansing on Wednesday for a visit and it looks like he’s garnering some decent interest in the transfer portal as he’s rated an 87 on 247Sports. As a high school recruit, he was bordering on four-star status but still managed to crack the playing rotation, appearing in 13 games and he recorded six tackles. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining which would be huge for the staff.

The Las Vegas native has already visited Colorado and UCLA so the fact that the Spartans are getting a visit is huge.

What this tells me is that the staff is not content with the cornerback room on the roster currently. It also tells me that Dillon Tatum is likely moving back to safety following the departure of Jaden Mangham. He will be a starter in the defensive backfield next season and with all of the cornerbacks being targeted by Jonathan Smith, it looks like it will be at safety.

The additions of Lejond Cavazos and Ed Woods were already big for the cornerback position and if Smith can land either Minor or Hughes, the room would look really good, especially with rising star Chance Rucker also involved.

Charles Brantley did flirt with the portal and return again this offseason so he’ll be looking to crack that playing rotation, but it seems like Demetrice Martin and Blue Adams are requesting more depth. Smith is delivering with some impressive visitors and commitments.

Could we be on commit watch again within the next few days?
