Michigan State football was included in a loaded top five for talented tight end Eric Karner on Thursday afternoon.
Three-star 2024 tight end Eric Karner just released his top five schools and, man, is it a loaded group. Michigan State football made the cut along with some of the nation’s top programs.
Michigan State is going to have a tough battle here if they want to earn his commitment as this top five is as talented as they come with Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, and tight end factory Iowa included with the Spartans.
Karner is ranked as the No. 587 player and No. 28 tight end in the class, but if this top five is any indicator I would imagine he is due for a significant ratings bump.
Eric is from Elmhurst, Ill., and is listed at a massive 6-5 and 220 pounds. His measurements fit the Mel Tucker standard perfect as the head coach has made it no secret that he wants to recruit large and athletic athletes.
Karner already has an official visit set to Michigan State for the weekend of June 2. This weekend is becoming a star-studded one as Karner is one of seven recruits currently scheduled to visit. Of those seven recruits, five are four-stars including current MSU commit Jaylen Thompson.
MSU’s 2024 class currently sits at four commits including two four-star corners and two three-star offensive linemen. Karner would be a perfect addition to the class and one that Jay Johnson will be excited about as he has expressed his desire to really feature the tight end position in his offense.
As mentioned earlier, however, earning Karner’s commitment will be no easy task. Alabama is Alabama and Iowa is TEU producing some of the best tight ends in the country every year. Florida also has a lot of momentum and Texas A&M is a big spender and can win over any recruit.
No decision timeline has been announced yet for his commitment, but I imagine a lot of noise will be made soon has he takes his official visits this June.
