Michigan State football loses first offensive player to transfer portal

The first Michigan State football offensive player from the 2024 roster is set to enter the transfer portal. On Thursday, Jaron Glover announced that he will seek opportunities elsewhere with his final two years of eligibility.

It’s expected that the program will have a good bit of shuffling this offseason as head coach Jonathan Smith aims to build the right culture for his team heading into Year 2. After signing their 2025 high school class on Wednesday, the staff will now look to the transfer portal to fill in the gaps.

Glover was originally a part of Mel Tucker’s 2022 class and is entering the transfer portal for the second time in the last 12 months. After returning to East Lansing following the 2023 season, Glover started next to freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh and senior wideout Montorie Foster in 2024. Battling through some injuries, Glover played in eight games, totaling 15 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns..

After entering the portal last season, Glover took an official visit to Georgia. Fans were excited for him to return to East Lansing with newfound hype following the pursuit of Georgia head coach Kirby Smart — a national title winner in 2021 and 2022. The play on the field this season did not meet expectations.

The expectation was for the staff to pull a speedy wideout out of the portal this cycle to pair with Marsh following the graduation of Foster. The departure of Glover gives the staff some wiggle room to bring in the desired wideout and also opens the door for freshman signee Braylon Collier, a member of MSU’s 2025 class, who has been tabbed by many writers as the offensive freshman most likely see the field in Year 1.

Glover is the second player from the Tucker era to leave the program this offseason. It will be interesting to see how many players from that regime follow suit. I’m sure this won’t be the last.
