Michigan State football lands talented TCU cornerback transfer

Michigan State football just landed a talented cornerback transfer from a team that just made the national title game.

Michigan State football is getting some much-needed help for its secondary.

Former TCU cornerback Kee’Yon Stewart just announced his decision to transfer to MSU via Twitter, giving the Spartans a defensive back who just played for a national title last season.

The 6-foot-0, 185-pound Stewart is a former three-star recruit who’s currently coming in as a redshirt junior. He brings some veteran experience to the table, having appeared in 26 total games for TCU. He played in eight games last year, totaling 14 tackles, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

The secondary has been the weakness of Michigan State football over the past few years and Mel Tucker is trying to change that. The addition of a cornerback who played meaningful snaps for a national runner-up (and one who helped make the final stop in the semifinal vs. Michigan) is a good start. He’ll be battling it out with Charles Brantley, Caleb Coley, Marqui Lowery, Dillon Tatum, and others for starting snaps.

Depth is a good thing to have and Stewart isn’t just a projected backup, but he’s good enough to start for the Spartans and help return the unit to its rightful place.

Stewart has had some issues staying healthy, though, which is something to keep an eye on. Regardless, he is a welcome addition to the team, considering the extent to which the Spartans have struggled to stop the pass recently.

Hopefully, the TCU transfer can put a stop to that trend.
