This feels like a good sign.

Four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi said that his trip to see Michigan State football “shattered” his expectations.

It’s official visit season and Michigan State football fans are begging for some sustained momentum.

Mel Tucker has proven that he can knock official visits out of the park and he usually leaves lasting impressions on top recruits. One of those top recruits recently happened to be four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi who took a trip to East Lansing over the weekend of June 9.

And he loved everything about it.

In fact, according to SpartanMag, Mothudi said that his trip to East Lansing “100 percent shattered” his expectations.

That’s one heck of a quote. Mothudi is considered an Oregon lean and many believe that the California native is going to remain in the Pac-12. The other contenders here are Utah and Washington.

It’s not often you hear a recruit say that he wasn’t prepared for what he was about to experience on his visit, but Tucker clearly blew him away.

Will that be enough, however? I’m not so sure.

I would be shocked to see Mothudi play college football across the country with Pac-12 teams pushing hard for him to stay home. Plus, he still has visits to Washington (this weekend) and Oregon (June 23) scheduled. The Ducks getting the final official visit could be the deal-sealer.

Still, hearing that Tucker is selling this program to elite recruits from around the country that may not have known anything about MSU prior to visiting is huge. He’s building the Michigan State brand on a national level.

Now, landing these recruits would be ideal but hopefully that’s what the program is building towards.

Mothudi is ranked the No. 173 overall recruit and 17th-best linebacker in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Beating out Oregon will be tough, but it’s clear that Tucker did a good job in this recruitment as the only Big Ten team on his list.
