Michigan State football lost a four-star cornerback on Saturday, but another has scheduled an official visit.

Four-star 2024 athlete Marcellus Barnes Jr. has locked in an official visit to Michigan State football beginning on June 2.

Barnes is a very talented prospect, ranked No. 225 in the country and the No. 19 cornerback according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds which gives him the length to battle wide receivers in coverage.

Marcellus also released his top seven schools which consists of Ole Miss, Florida State, Georgia, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Baylor along with the Spartans.

Based on his top schools alone, this is going to be an extremely competitive and tough recruitment to win.

MSU getting an official visit this early bodes well for the Spartans as that shows his interest is very high compared to the other schools on his top list.

Barnes is one of eight recruits currently scheduled to visit Michigan State on June 2 in what is turning out to be a massive recruiting weekend for the staff. He is also one of six four-star athletes that will be in town as well. Current Michigan State cornerback commit Jaylen Thompson will be in East Lansing this weekend and I expect him to try and form a good bond with Barnes to try and convince him to join him in the 2024 class.

Michigan State’s 2024 class currently has three recruits in total consisting of one four-star corner and two three-star offensive linemen. Adding Barnes to the class would be huge to get another four-star defensive back as that is a huge position of need for MSU.

Will MSU be able to win this competitive recruitment?
