If you’re not a fan of night games for Michigan State football, this season has probably been a nightmare for you.
You won’t be going to bed early any time soon. The Spartans will face Iowa at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night this weekend, and another kickoff time has been announced for the Michigan game on Oct. 26.
Michigan State will travel to Ann Arbor on Oct. 26 and it’ll play under the lights.
Saturday will mark the fourth straight night game for the Spartans, following Boston College, Ohio State, and Oregon, and then Michigan will make a fifth straight primetime matchup. It will also be the sixth night game of the season for Michigan State. This is unprecedented territory for Michigan State, but it feels like the new norm with a rising program and the Big Ten expanding to the West Coast.
Michigan State will hopefully be 4-3 heading into the Michigan game and riding some momentum after beating a solid Iowa Hawkeyes team. A win against Iowa would be big for the program and it could help lead to an important Michigan win.
It’s been an interesting season thus far and Michigan State football has been playing in front of more eyes with plenty more attention this season and the Spartans are looking better than we expected. If they continue playing well and Aidan Chiles continues to grow, we could get used to them playing in primetime for the nation to watch.
Jonathan Smith has the program headed in the right direction and wins over Iowa and Michigan would be tremendous for its progress. That would show that Michigan State is ahead of schedule.
Spartan Stadium will be rocking this weekend for a night game and then the Spartans will head into a hostile environment under the lights in Week 9 against Michigan. I know, we all took noon games for granted.
