Michigan State football running back commit Jace Clarizio has been bumped up to four-star status by On3 on Tuesday.

After months of waiting, Michigan State football officially has its first four-star of the 2025 class.

And no, it’s not another commit, but rather one who has been solid to the Spartans for about a month. That’s right, three-star running back Jace Clarizio has been given his fourth star by the On3 industry composite.

According to the newest rankings, ESPN has Clarizio listed as a four-star and the composite has him listed as the No. 395 overall player and 30th-best running back in the 2025 class. Both 247Sports and On3 have him listed as a three-star, but he’s right on the edge of becoming a four-star on both of those recruiting services as well. By the time his senior year ends, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the East Lansing native tabbed as a four-star by all major databases.

Clarizio is now the first four-star in the Spartans’ 2025 class, leading the way for guys like Leon Hannan or Di’Mari Malone to soon follow suit. If I were to guess, I’d say that both of those three-star commits will also become four-stars by the end of the process.

Jonathan Smith is doing a really solid job of building his first full recruiting class not just by starpower but with guys who really fit the Spartan mold. Clarizio is just the latest example of a Michigan State recruit who was undervalued early in the process but who caught the eye of the staff and is finally getting the respect he deserves. Don’t be shocked if more of this class gets similar bumps.

The new Michigan State football staff is recruiting well, let’s just hope that matches the on-field performance over the next few years, at least.
