Everyone has been wondering if Nick Marsh will remain committed to MSU, and he explained why he’s sticking with the Spartans.
Ever since Jonathan Smith took the head coaching job at Michigan State, all eyes turned toward Nick Marsh.
Why? He’s Michigan State’s top commit and he’s been committed to the Spartans a couple of times and he reaffirmed his pledge to Mel Tucker back in July. We all know what happened a couple of months later. Usually, that would cause any top-100 prospect to reopen his recruitment. Marsh remained committed throughout the season and then waited for the Spartans to hire a new coach.
And when he found out it was Smith, he was happy.
In fact, he was happy enough to reaffirm his commitment again despite all of the uncertainty surrounding the program for months. A report from Allen Trieu on Tuesday revealed that Marsh had canceled a trip to Colorado and was locked in with the Spartans.
On Tuesday night, he went on the This is Sparta podcast with his mom, Jehuu Caulcrick, and Jason Strayhorn and explained why he’s remaining committed.
Essentially, he was sticking with Michigan State throughout the season because they showed him the most love. He then liked the hire of Smith and decided that he wanted to lock in with the Spartans as he had from the beginning. A lot of that would have to be attributed to the likely retention of his position coach, Courtney Hawkins.
Marsh also said that other schools weren’t being as consistent with him through his recruiting process so he didn’t feel like they should get the same type of love in return.
In the end, Marsh is going to be one of the crown jewels of the early years of the Smith era and he could become a focal point in that offense sooner rather than later — if we can find him a quarterback.
