MamaTron, who happens to be the mother of Michigan State football freshman Nick Marsh, slammed Michigan fans on Wednesday.
As Michigan State football fans, we know all too well what it’s like to deal with the delusion from the fanbase down the road.
When Michigan State is good, it’s because Michigan is bad. When the Spartans beat the Wolverines, it’s because of weather or the refs or something else out of Michigan’s control. When a recruit chooses Michigan State over Michigan, it’s because he wasn’t a fit for the Wolverines or they just passed on him.
These are just the most predictable excuses that Michigan fans use to justify, well, basically anything.
But when Michigan fans bash a recruit or a player that chooses the Spartans over the Wolverines, it often gets noticed by said player and his family. So when Michigan fans bashed Nick Marsh during the recruiting process, saying he “wasn’t a fit” or that his family was “crazy”, you can bet that word got to the right party.
Justin Spiro posted some interesting quotes from Michigan fans, and even a (biased) recruiting reporter, that showed that they had excuses in place for why the Wolverines didn’t land Marsh.
“Probably not a fit here,” said EJ Holland.
“Cause his parents are (expletive) crazy (at least the ‘mamatron’ is). Marsh was never a fit at UM, etc. It’s been reported a bunch of times in the past. No one really wanted the kid. He OV’d at MSU, PSU, Pitt, GT and Colorado. Pretty sure PSU backed out. Think only MSU/Colorado might have been the ‘real’ offers,” said “MoreDuh” on a Michigan message board.
Two very out-there statements from differing viewpoints. One guy is supposed to be well-connected in the recruiting landscape (maybe he’s focused on the 2030 recruiting class right now), and the other is a random fan who claims to have inside info.
Both takes were debunked by “MamaTron” herself on X.
I love this fiery response because she’s spot-on. She knows that these people are just talking nonsense and it makes her laugh because it couldn’t be further from the truth. There’s a reason dozens of schools pushed to flip Marsh when Mel Tucker was fired. Did they all back off because he “wasn’t a fit” or because his “mom is crazy” or was that just Michigan?
Marsh’s mom went one step further, posting her own response to the bashing of her son and their family on X.
“You can be rivals and still have respect! One fanbase clearly blurs the lines. No decency for these players who are just young men doing what they love and finding their way. You make it personal and that alone is delusional!”
In the end, Michigan State will have the last laugh because Marsh is proving to be one of the nation’s best freshmen and Michigan’s offense barely has a pulse. But yeah, maybe eight catches for 194 yards and a touchdown just wouldn’t be a fit in that offense.
