Michigan State football receiver Nick Marsh was ranked the No. 7 freshman in the country through two weeks by ESPN.

The first two weeks of the Michigan State football season have been a roller-coaster.

Yes, the Spartans are 2-0, but not without a little bit of stress along the way. There have been highs (the Maryland win) and lows (the near-loss to FAU) but Michigan State has been one of the most surprising teams through two weeks.

Along with being one of the most surprising teams, the Spartans have one of the nation’s best freshmen.

That freshman is Nick Marsh.

After a quiet opening week against FAU, Marsh took the field with plenty to prove in Week 2 and he did just that. The Big Ten Freshman of the Week caught eight passes for 194 yards and a touchdown just one week after snagging one pass for 11 yards.

This was enough to earn Marsh the distinction of being one of the top 10 freshmen in college football through two weeks.

Marsh has nine catches for 205 yards and a touchdown through two weeks so it makes sense that he is considered one of the top freshmen in the nation. The other receivers ahead of him on the list have also had good starts, but I think Marsh should be ahead of Ryan Wingo of Texas.

Both Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith have over 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns each but Wingo has four catches for 70 yards along with a 55-yard rush against Michigan. He has yet to score a touchdown. The fact that he plays for Texas helps his case to be higher on the list, but Marsh’s 205 yards and a score on nine receptions should be ahead of him.

Either way, you have to love what you see from Marsh so early in his young career. He has a great rapport with his quarterback, he has a knack for high-pointing the ball, he can burn defenders deep, and he’s humble. This dude is going to be a star.
