While Hank Poteat has been finding multiple defensive backs for the Spartans to offer and recruit, Max Bullough joined in on the fun. Michigan State football offered 2027 linebacker C.J. Ohuabunwa, a three-star linebacker with a stacked offer list out of Norcross.

The Word on C.J. Ohuabunwa

C.J. Ohuabunwa is a three-star linebacker that stands at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds out of Greater Atlanta Christian School (Ga.). While 247Sports does not have a rating from the prospect, On3 rates the backer no. 1189 in the nation, no. 109 among linebackers, and no. 124 among all players from his class in Georgia.

Last season, Ohuabunwa was a tackling machine, with 132 tackles, eight of them for loss, three sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and four pass breakups. Unsurprisingly, a season like that has gotten him noticed. He holds over 30 offers, including defending national champion Indiana.

Who is Michigan State Football Competing With?

The Spartans are competing with eight other Power Four schools, including the Indiana Hoosiers. However, the team to beat at this stage of recruiting for Ohuabunwa appears to be Virginia Tech. On3 lists the Hokies with a 50% chance of landing the prospect, along with them being the only announced official visit for the player thus far.

Other Linebacker Targets

The Spartans are losing four linebackers to graduation this year, leading to Max Bullough heavily hitting the recruiting trail recently. The Spartans have set dates for four other linebackers with an official visit.

One of the top names is Lundon Hampton, a cousin with former Spartan captain Khari Willis. Hampton is a projected linebacker and has received projections to Michigan State, with an official visit set up. Another name that has shot up boards recently is Rome Ewell, a three-star linebacker from Texas.

Class Recap

The class is still awaiting their first linebacker commitment, but has nailed down defensive commitments from safety Ty’ire Clark, and defensive line duo Ohimai Ozolua and Jack Schuler.
