Over the weekend, Michigan State football and Courtney Hawkins made a stop in Texas to evaluate talent. One player stood out, with three-star receiver Maliek Brown earning himself a scholarship offer from the Spartans. The receiver brings length, which is something the Spartans lack in their 2026 room.
What to Know About Maliek Brown
Brown is currently rated no. 833 in the nation on the 247Sports Composite. He is rated no. 103 among receivers and no. 110 among players in his class from Texas. Brown’s junior season saw the receiver record 43 catches for 768 yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 4 rushes for 34 yards.
When adding in his 400 yards receiving and six touchdowns as a sophomore, it is clear that Brown has established himself as a playmaker and touchdown threat.
The Chapel Hill High School (Texas) receiver is a tri-sport athlete, staying busy with basketball in the winter and track in the spring, where he runs both the 200m (timed 22.27 sec.) and the 400m (timed 48.31).
He displays an impress catch radius in his highlights, with the ability to both extend and hold onto the ball being at a high level. When Chapel Hill got around the opposing 20-yard line, the go-to play appeared to be a streak route to Brown, and one-on-one coverage was nowhere near enough to cover the player.
Brown is lengthy, with his recruiting profile listing the receiver at 6-foot-3, and his X bio adding an extra inch-and-a-half to his height. Regardless, that height is something the Spartan room lacks, as their only receiver over 6-foot-2 is preferred walk-on Jack Yanachik, whose only snaps in 2025 came as Alessio Milivojevic kneeled the ball down against Maryland.
Who is Michigan State Football Competing With?
The Spartans will be squaring off with a few Power Four schools, with MSU being his eighth offer from the Power Conference schools. This includes local threats Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech, but the Spartans are the first Big Ten school to offer Brown.
As of this writing, Brown does not have an announced visit with Michigan State football.
The dark horse in this recruiting race is Louisiana Tech, as the Bulldogs have Brown’s only publicly announced visit scheduled for May 15.
How the Class Stands
The Spartans are looking for their first true pass catcher of the class, with their four offensive commits containing lineman duo Grant Adloff and Jack Carlton, quarterback Eli Stumpf, and running back Savior Owens.
