When assessing the early part of Michigan State football’s 2027 recruiting class, the “strength” currently resides in the defensive line. The Spartans have already landed the commitments of DL Ohimai Ozolua, a consensus four-star, and EDGE Jack Schuler, a three-star with length to grow. However, the Spartans are not done.

Coaches Winston DeLattiboudere III and Andrew Bindleglass reached back into Ohio for another offer, later locking in a visit with Lawrence Kanneh of Whitehall Yearling High School.

More on Lawrence Kanneh

Kanneh is a consensus three-star prospect, being ranked no. 843 nationally, no. 69 among EDGE prospects, and no. 31 among players from Ohio. Among EDGE rushers from Ohio, Kanneh is rated third, trailing Jaylen Mercer and Munir Lewis. Lewis was a Spartan target that has since committed to Louisville.

When looking at the stats, Kanneh’s calling card is his production. The 6-foot-3 prospects recorded 60 tackles, 23 of them for loss, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two pass breakups last season.

With his weight being around 220 pounds, Kanneh will need to put up some mass to his frame for Big Ten competition. He will need to balance that with his speed and initial burst off the line, which stands out on his highlights.

His ability to speed rush and power rush his competition stands out, along with the ability to disengage and remain active in the play when stonewalled at the line of scrimmage.

Kanneh Set to Visit East Lansing

The EDGE rusher will be visiting Michigan State football and East Lansing on June 5-7, with the Spartans locking the visit in the same day he was offered. He is set to visit alongside multiple other defensive linemen that weekend.
