Top Michigan State football target Xadavien Sims is announcing his decision this week. Unfortunately, Oklahoma and Oregon are trending.
Last week, four-star defensive line target Xadavien Sims announced his top schools list and that he would be making a decision on May 20.
Michigan State football fans originally liked their chances as he had a few crystal balls in favor of the Spartans on 247Sports, including one from Steve Wiltfong. The Spartans had been sitting in a good spot in this recruitment for a while and Sims even took an unofficial visit to East Lansing on March 14.
But those crystal balls are starting to look like old news as the On3 RPM (recruiting prediction machine) has two different teams trending of late: Oregon and Oklahoma.
While Michigan State leads the prediction machine on On3 (51.6 percent) as well as the crystal ball predictions on 247Sports (100 percent), it just feels like the random announcement date coupled with the fact that Oregon has been known to swoop in late to land kids could hurt the Spartans’ chances. Plus, Oklahoma is the home-state school.
Bai Jobe’s relationship with Sims and five-star David Stone could help Michigan State’s chances, but there has to be a reason for the influx of predictions in favor of Oregon and Oklahoma by those schools’ insiders recently.
Of course, I’d love to be wrong, but it just doesn’t feel like Michigan State is in the driver’s seat here anymore. It actually feels like the Spartans may be running third.
Plus, Sims has official visits scheduled to TCU and Vanderbilt after his commitment date, but doesn’t have one scheduled to Michigan State.
I hate to go off of the On3 prediction machine, but it just feels like things are trending away from the Spartans.
This would be yet another tough recruiting loss for Mel Tucker and would just add to a difficult offseason for the program.
