Michigan State football opened the 2025 season with a convincing win over Western Michigan, and here were some of the best sights.
Western Michigan didn’t stand much of a chance on Friday night as Michigan State football suffocated the Broncos en route to a 23-6 win in East Lansing.
Michigan State raced out to a 21-0 lead at halftime before scoring just two points on a safety in the second half while Western added a pick-six courtesy of former Spartan Tate Hallock. This was the second straight season in which the Spartans recorded a safety in the opener.
Now that Michigan State engineered the season opener with very little issue, the offense needs to do more of what it did in the first half moving forward. Brian Lindgren needs to avoid second-half woes against Boston College next week, because that kind of mediocre play-calling won’t fly against a Power Four opponent.
The Spartans have some things to clean up in pass protection, in the defensive backfield, and more receivers than just Nick Marsh and Omari Kelly need to step up. Oh, and getting Aidan Chiles and Jack Velling on the same page will help.
Starting 1-0 is a good feeling, but there’s plenty of work to do, and Jonathan Smith echoed that sentiment following the game, telling the media that he was proud of the team, but the job isn’t finished.
With Week 1 in the books, let’s take a look at some of the best sights from Friday’s win over Western, taken by our own photographer, Nolan Gerou.
Best sights from Michigan State football in Week 1

It was a great win for the Spartans that probably could have ended a little better, but this was a better performance that last year’s 16-10 snoozer over FAU. Check back in next week for some more of the best sights from (hopefully) another Michigan State football win.
