Michigan State football picked up yet another commitment on Monday, this time in the form of three-star wideout Austin Clay.
As this past weekend was winding down, info started to come out of recruiting circles that Michigan State football hosted another outstanding round of official visits. Jonathan Smith and Co. had just finished up their second straight weekend hosting talent. After the first weekend of visits, Michigan State was able to land four commitments in total and it appeared that weekend two could potential net more for the current staff.
Then, as Sunday wound down, we got word that two recruits — Alessio Milivojevic and Andrew Brinson — were committed to the Spartans. Not a bad end to the weekend.
Well, here we are on Monday afternoon and it was just announced that a third prospect is pledging his services to the Spartans ahead of early signing day. This time is three-star wide receiver Austin Clay.
Clay is from Midpark High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He ranks as the No. 135 wide receiver in the country per 247Sports. Austin was on campus this weekend and connected well with the current staff and recruits. He was originally committed to Bowling Green but de-committed in order to come to the Spartans. Clay told 247Sports’ Allen Trieu that the coaching staff “is trying to build a program” and that it’s something he wanted to be a part of, following his visit.
The 6-foot-1 pass-catcher amassed over 1,600 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns this past season in high school as a senior. He reportedly runs a 4.45 40-yard dash and also plays basketball for Midpark.
Clay is a shifty athlete and could really be a nice weapon for the new-look Spartan offense. One of his potential quarterbacks that will be throwing him balls in East Lansing was excited to hear of Clay’s commitment. Alessio Milivojevic tweeted this reaction as soon as Clay announced his commitment:
Clay becomes the 13th verbally committed prospect out of high school for the Spartans 2024 class. Smith and the staff continue their blazing start on the recruiting path. He is the sixth high school recruit to pick MSU in the past two weeks and seventh overall when counting for the transfer of Aidan Chiles.
What an impressive start for this staff in terms of recruiting for sure and there may be even more in store soon.
Multiple rumors indicate more commitments could be on the way as signing day approaches this week so keep it here with us at Spartan Shadows for more recruiting info. Welcome to East Lansing, Austin. Go Green!.
