Michigan State football signee Rustin Young just received his fourth star on Rivals. He’s getting the respect he deserves.
The 2024 Michigan State football recruiting class is pretty much wrapped up, but the recruiting sites are still shuffling their rankings. One Spartan signee just received a rating increase on Rivals and has now become a four-star on their site.
Four-star offensive tackle Rustin Young
Rustin Young is the latest Spartan to earn his fourth star on Rivals. According to Rivals, he is the No. 31 offensive tackle in his class and the No. 3 prospect from Hawaii.
And 247Sports, on the other hand, is even higher on Young than Rivals. They have Young listed as the No. 207 player in his class and the No. 18 player at his position. They also have Young as the No. 1 player from Hawaii as well.
Young is one of the best signees for Jonathan Smith in the 2024 class. He is the second highest signee in the class, only behind wide receiver Nick Marsh. Young has the chance to be a major contributor for MSU early in his career. Almost no offensive tackles play as a true freshman, and I assume that will be the case with Young as well. But he has the chance to compete for significant playing time in the 2025 season when he is in his second year with the Spartans.
Recruiting background
Young was originally committed to Smith at Oregon State. After Smith left the Beavers, Young followed in quick pursuit. He decommitted from Oregon State on Dec. 6 then officially visited East Lansing nine days later on the Dec. 15. Immediately after that visit, the crystal ball predictions starting coming in for Young to commit to Michigan State.
It didn’t take long for him to make it official as Young committed to MSU on the Dec. 19 then officially signed with the program on the 20th. We all knew he didn’t have much time because of how late in the cycle he decommitted from Oregon State, but this recruiting process went even faster than I expected.
I’m happy Young finally earned the fourth star he deserves from Rivals since 247Sports has had him as a four-star for quite some time, so it only makes sense that Rivals followed suit. Regardless of his ranking, the Spartans are getting an elite athlete at one of the most important positions on the football field, and I can’t wait to see how he does in East Lansing.
