The last time Michigan State football wore a green, white, white uniform combination in Ann Arbor, the Spartans pulled off a massive upset on the back of a first-year starting quarterback and a freshman phenom receiver.
They’ll look to repeat history on Saturday evening in Ann Arbor as Aidan Chiles and Nick Marsh lead the familiar uniform combination into Michigan State for the second time since 2020.
In case you don’t remember, Michigan State wore this combination in 2020 when Ricky White and Rocky Lombardi pulled off the shocking upset of the Wolverines in an empty Michigan Stadium.
Before that, the Spartans wore the green helmet, white jersey, and white pants in 2015 when Connor Cook and Jalen Watts-Jackson pulled off the most incredible win in the rivalry’s history on that botched punt. This team is hoping for some of that magic on Saturday night.
Chiles is looking to build off his best game as a Spartan against Iowa in which he completed 22-of-30 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown and he rushed for over 50 more yards. Quite the impressive showing against one of the best defenses in the Big Ten over the past few year, at least.
Marsh, too, is coming off one of his best games as a Spartan, recording over 100 receiving yards for the second time in his young career. He is on pace to be the best freshman receiver in Michigan State football history and a big showing against Michigan would get him even closer.
The Spartans are currently 3.5-point underdogs heading into the game which is down from around a touchdown when the lines opened up following the weekend.
Let’s hope the Spartans can step up to pick up a big win and end the two-game losing streak in the rivalry after the past two forgettable seasons.
Time to take care of business.
