Michigan State hockey has received its preseason ranking for the 2024-25 season with the start of the new campaign upon us.

Coming off of the most successful season in recent memory for Michigan State hockey, the team is receiving a number of preseason accolades. Not only is the team predicted to finish first in the Big Ten once again, but the Spartans also received a number of preseason All-Big Ten players.

The newest accolade comes courtesy of the USCHO rankings. In their most recent poll, the USCHO has the Spartans ranked at No. 4 in the country.

While preseason rankings only allow more of a translation of how the team finished last year, the Spartans return a lot of important pieces this year. Among the returning stars for this team are Red Savage, Isaac Howard, and Trey Augustine. All of these guys are looking to build upon the success of last year and impress their NHL teams.

Many of the teams the Spartans play this year are also ranked. This provides stiff but strong competition that will hopefully help push towards another NCAA Tournament run. Only team in the Big Ten that is not ranked is Penn State. That says a great deal about the strength that the Big Ten has even though it’s relatively young. Another team that the Spartans need to keep on is the Boston College Eagles. After recently losing to them in football, the Spartans are looking to get some revenge on the ice. This series will be the home opener for the Spartans.

In the poll, Boston College is No. 2. The Eagles are coming off of a trip to the national title game last spring.

We are about a week away from puck drop for the Spartans after a long wait. Michigan State hockey will start on the road with a series against Lake Superior State a week from Friday. That will lead into the home opening series at Munn against the Boston College Eagles.

Keep checking in for more updates on Spartan Hockey.
