Steven Izzo scores first career points on wild and-one (Video)

Tom Izzo’s son, Steven Izzo, scored his first career basket on Sunday afternoon and it happened on a crazy and-one.

Folks, he’s finally done it. Steven Izzo scored his first career points in a Michigan State uniform and it happened to come on one of the crazier and-ones you’ll see from a walk-on — maybe ever.

Izzo caught a pass from Tre Holloman and immediately went to work. He decided to take the Rutgers defender off the dribble and create for himself, which he did. He backed the defender down, turned around, and dribbled toward the basket, drawing some contact and throwing up a prayer which the Breslin Center gods answered. The ball rattled around the rim for what felt like an eternity and dropped in.

To say the Breslin Center went insane would be an understatement.

Teammates rushed off the bench to celebrate with Steven on the baseline and you could see the smirk from Tom Izzo from a mile away. Steven went over, gave his dad a high-five and a hug, and went on to hit the and-one free throw.

Everyone probably assumed Izzo’s first points would either never come or come from free throws or a wild 3-pointer. But he earned that bucket the hard way. He created for himself and carried the momentum over from the starters who had a great offensive half. This was just the perfect cherry on top of a fantastic game for the Spartans.

Following two straight road losses, Michigan State needed a pick-me-up performance like this where everyone — including Steven Izzo — gained some confidence.

We saw everyone play well in the second half from AJ Hoggard to Carson Cooper to Xavier Booker. And then it was all capped off by an Izzo bucket which sent East Lansing into a frenzy.

Steven walked around like he just hit a game-winner and it honestly felt that way.

What a moment.
