The New York media is trying its best to get Tyson Walker to crack and talk about himself, but the MSU star is all business.

Tyson Walker is all business.

Even returning home to where he grew up and played high school basketball before heading off to Northeastern, Walker is unfazed. Most guys would reminisce about their childhood or get emotional talking about where they grew up, how much it means to them to play a meaningful game like this back at home, and speak openly about the road to get where they are now.

Not Walker.

Walker is tight-lipped and stoic. He’s treating this trip back home to New York City where he grew up as a business trip and nothing more.

And you have to love that about him.

The New York City media loves a good story and Walker playing a Sweet 16 game and potentially an Elite Eight game to get him to a Final Four in the city that raised him is a goldmine for these reporters. Yet he’s not willing to offer up any personal takes on the moment.

Asked if he told his teammates about anywhere special to him in the city, he admitted that he hadn’t told his teammates anything. Then the media tried to get info from him and he said he didn’t have any favorite spots in the city and he hasn’t been home in five years. And then he said his only priority while being back in New York is seeing his dog, Saint.

Straight business. Nothing more.

Some guys would get distracted playing in their hometowns. Not Tyson. Some would let it eat them up. Not Tyson. Some would give in to the story with the media. Not Tyson.

Walker is here to play and win a game. He’s actually here to win two games. If he gets that job done, he’ll immediately shift his focus to the next task at hand.

There’s a reason Tom Izzo loves this dude. And not just because he delivered on his promise of getting him some good New York pizza.
