An important and welcomed change is coming to the Michigan State football game day schedule starting this weekend.
Nearly 24 hours after Michigan State football secondary coach Harlon Barnett was promoted to acting head coach in the wake of Mel Tucker’s scandal and subsequent suspension, he’s already implementing (welcomed) changes to the team’s game day schedule.
Previously under Tucker, the team would bus from the Kellogg Center to the Spartan Statue and walk the rest of the way to the stadium. Acting head coach Harlon Barnett is already changing this back to the former tradition of walking from the Kellogg to the statue and then to Spartan Stadium.
The walk is scheduled to begin at 2:50 p.m. ET on Saturday and it is expected to be packed with fans there to show their support to the players through the hectic week they’ve experienced.
It is encouraged you show up early, and you cheer loud. The players will need it this week.

Because I travel from out of town to make on campus for games, it’s not often that I’m able to attend the team’s walk into the stadium. Honestly, I didn’t even know this was a tradition that was changed under Tucker. My question is, why? Did he just want cool content of him getting off a bus? Did he think reducing the player’s steps would keep their legs fresher? I’m not sure there. What I am sure about though is that Tucker does not think before he acts.
I think this is an encouraging move from our new head coach. Why not make a statement that you’re the captain now by implementing changes before your first game. Sure, the players walk further but let’s be honest, these are 18-22 year old athletes. I think they can handle the extra 500 steps.
I just know Spartan Nation is going to pack the streets to show their support. I’ll be there no matter what. So will HopWoman. Gosh, I cannot wait for Saturday. There is just something about a Michigan State football team with a chip on its shoulder that gets me riled up.
See you soon,
