A prominent ESPN personality made a horrible joke about Larry Nassar when talking about Michigan State football jerseys.
If you’re a Michigan State football fan, you’ve probably been glued to social media all weekend as the program hosted ‘Thy Shadows’ to unveil a new jersey as well as Spartan Dawg Con.
The news of the all-black jerseys sparked conversation all over Twitter (now X) and it even got fans thinking about the last new uniform concept that Michigan State unveiled: neons.
A former Spartan who works on the Pat McAfee Show posted about the neons and how he’s shocked that Michigan State ever thought it was a good idea.
His boss, Pat McAfee, responded with one of the most tasteless jokes you’ll ever see.
Just horrible. But hey, he’s known for being a vulgar podcast host who speaks his mind and usually doesn’t have a filter. This is on brand for him, but he received immediate backlash.
McAfee is now an ESPN personality as he’s joined the College GameDay cast this past year and this is yet another bad look for the company that’s had black eye after black eye. It makes you wonder if he’s going to receive any punishment from the company, especially since they covered the Nassar story closely and know it’s nothing to joke about.
Actually, anyone with a brain knows you don’t joke about it.
Not only is the joke tasteless and gross, but it doesn’t make sense. Like at all. And instead of deleting an issuing an apology, he responded to fans telling him to delete by basically saying “why?” in GIF form. He also retweeted his own horrible joke. That’s just doubling and tripling down on the ugliest form of humor out there.
Let’s hope McAfee can donate some of his big ESPN checks to the Nassar victim’s fund.
