Former Michigan State star Jayden Reed is having a historic NFL rookie season with the Green Bay Packers. What has he accomplished?
Spartan fans are used to former Michigan State football players finding success in the NFL. Kirk Cousins and Kenneth Walker III are a couple of current players that immediately come to mind. However, no Spartan is currently making more noise than Jayden Reed.
Jayden Reed’s historic rookie NFL season
Reed is doing something in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers that only two players have ever accomplished in NFL history. It is quite a long list of stats to reach this achievement, but that just makes it all the more impressive. Reed is the third rookie in NFL history to record six receiving touchdowns, 500 receiving yards, 100 rushing yards, multiple rushing touchdowns, and multiple 50-yard receptions.
The two players that have also accomplished this feat make this accomplishment even more impressive. Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey are the two other players to accomplish this. In case you don’t follow the NFL, Hill is arguably the best wide receiver in the league and McCaffrey is arguably the best running back. So yes, that is impressive company to be in.
Year in review
So far this season, Reed has accumulated 54 catches for 592 yards and six touchdowns. He also has 11 carries for 119 yards and two more touchdowns. The only downside statistically this season for Reed is that he has had two fumbles. All things considered, however, I’m sure the Packers are just fine with that.
Reed’s best game of the season came in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In this game, he caught five passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. He also caught his longest pass of the season for 46 yards.
Jayden Reed and the Packers are 6-8 on the season and one game out of the playoffs. With three games to go, anything is still possible for them. As a Detroit Lions fan, I would love to see Green Bay miss the playoffs. But for the sake of Reed, I’ll make an exception this time.
