Former Michigan State star Joey Hauser is getting another NBA shot with the New Orleans Pelicans in the Summer League.
Folks, Joey Hauser is getting another shot at the NBA.
The Spartan fan favorite and hero of the 2022 NCAA Tournament first-round matchup with Davidson has been given another opportunity to earn a spot on a roster this summer, signing with the New Orleans Pelicans’ NBA Summer League team.
Another name on the team other than Hauser looks familiar and that’s because Keion Brooks Jr. was once a top target for Tom Izzo and the Spartans before choosing John Calipari and Kentucky and then ending his career at Washington. He will get a chance to prove himself alongside Hauser in the post during NBA Summer League action which will begin on Friday, July 12.
The Pelicans’ Summer League schedule will go from July 12-22 and Hauser will have numerous opportunities to prove himself.
Michigan State fans will have a chance to follow his journey to the NBA and root him on as he tries to join his older brother in the league. Sam Hauser just won an NBA title with Xavier Tillman and the Boston Celtics and that has to be all the motivation that Joey needs to make the leap.
Hauser appeared last year with the Ontario Clippers of the G-League, averaging 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game while shooting about 32 percent from deep. He could use some all-around improvement and playing in the Summer League and flashing his ability to stretch the floor and rebound should get him some consideration for a two-way contract or another G-League opportunity.
There’s a long, uphill battle to make an NBA roster and Hauser knows that, but he could potentially surprise some people during the Summer League and find himself in a better opportunity than the one he was in last season.
