After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Spartan star Malik Hall has signed a Summer League deal with the Charlotte Hornets.

While no Spartans were selected in the 2024 NBA Draft, two of them have found new homes in the league over the past 24 hours. On Sunday, it was announced that Tyson Walker would be signing a Summer League deal with the Phoenix Suns and shortly after, we found out what Malik Hall would be doing next.

Michigan State announced that the former fifth-year star senior would be signing with the Hornets on their Summer League squad.

Hall had a nice career at Michigan State and his fifth year felt like it deserved more love from NBA squads. He showed the ability to back bigger defenders down, out-muscle smaller guys regularly, and score with ease either in the mid-range or at the rim. He’s an athletic forward with plenty of strength and a high basketball IQ. He finished his final year at Michigan State averaging 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 53 percent from the floor.

The only real negative regarding Hall’s game is his inability to shoot from deep. He made just 32.8% of his shots from 3-point range which was only 0.1% higher than a season ago and the fourth-highest in his career. Hall’s motion and release got slower every year.

With a little bit of re-working on his shot, Malik Hall could make a roster or earn a two-way contract. He has the skills that could translate to the next level and work out a nice role player spot. He has the mid-range game, finishing ability, and he can play some solid defense. There’s no doubt that his frame and strength make him an NBA-ready player.

We’ll see just how he fares in NBA Summer League but it’ll be fun to watch him and Walker fight for roster spots.
