Tyson Walker didn’t hear his name called in the 2024 NBA Draft but he’s signing with the Phoenix Suns’ Summer League team.
After an impressive three-year career with Michigan State hoops, Tyson Walker is headed off to the pro ranks.
No, Walker didn’t hear his name called during the 2024 NBA Draft and if he had a little more size to his frame, there’s probably a zero percent chance he goes undrafted. It was impressive to watch his growth from an eight-points-per-game scorer in 2021-22 to the 18.4 points he averaged this past season.
Unfortunately, no NBA team took a chance on him during the draft and he had to wait until after the process to find a team to sign with.
He did just that on Sunday, inking a deal with the Phoenix Suns on their Summer League team.
This is a great move by Walker and it helps that Mat Ishbia is the owner of the Suns because there’s a chance that he could sign a two-way deal when the Summer League concludes with Phoenix. I’m not saying he’s a lock to sign on with an NBA team, but this feels like as good of a situation as any. Plus. I truly think Walker is good enough to play in the league. He might not be a star, but not many teams would say no to a sharpshooting and shot-creating guard who can defend at a high level and who plays bigger than his frame. Walker can score from anywhere on the floor and he’s crafty enough to make it to the paint with ease.
It’ll be interesting to see how he fares during Summer League play because if he gets minutes, he’s going to put up numbers.
Let’s hope teams aren’t scared away by his size because he plays much bigger and deserves a true shot.
