This would be a nice get for Courtney Hawkins.

Michigan State football is getting a visit from a four-star receiver from the West Coast in early June.

Talented four-star wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer has locked in an official visit to Michigan State football beginning on June 2, according to On3.

Mel Tucker and Courtney Hawkins will look to make a great impression on Gilmer as this will be his first visit to East Lansing and he recently named MSU in his top six.

Gilmer is listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, which is great size to be able to bully opposing secondaries. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Gilmer is ranked No. 269 in the country and No. 39 amongst all wide receivers.

The four-star wideout has also scheduled four other official visits, all of which are Pac-12 schools. He will be visiting UCLA on May 26, Stanford on June 9, Washington on June 17, and Cal on June 23. It is no surprise seeing all these Pac-12 schools listed as he is from Chatsworth, Calif., but Michigan State being included does shock me as it appears Gilmer might prefer to stay local for his college ball.

However, making the trip all the way to East Lansing shows there is some definite interest there.

During his junior season, Gilmer hauled in 29 catches for 600 yards and eight touchdowns. Given the modest number of catches he had on the year, posting 600 yards and eight touchdowns is very impressive. Gilmer helped lead his team to a solid 9-3 record on the year while playing against some great California competition.

Hawkins knows what it takes to get to the NFL. He has demonstrated that in multiple ways as he was drafted himself in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft and has helped two Spartan receivers get drafted since joining the staff in 2020. Hawkins accomplished this in the last two drafts with Jalen “Speedy” Nailor in 2022 and Jayden Reed in 2023.

With that amount of success in such a short amount of time, it is no surprise to see wide receivers from all over the country interested in Michigan State football.

The Spartans’ 2024 class sits at four commitments, none of which are wide receivers. Gilmer would be an amazing athlete to start the receiver class with and MSU fans will hope to get Nick Marsh back in the class to join him.

June 2 is shaping up to be a massive recruiting weekend for Michigan State as it already has visits planned for five other prospects including three other four-star recruits. Also visiting this weekend is current four-star cornerback commit Jaylen Thompson who will hopefully be a great advocate for Gilmer to join the Spartans’ 2024 class.
