Michigan State football adds Nebraska WR transfer

Michigan State football has dipped into the transfer portal to land one of its receiver targets, Alante Brown.

Ever since the departure if Keon Coleman, Michigan State has made it known they were interested in adding to the wide receiver position through the portal. The team brought guys in for visits and made offers. It’s clear they wanted to add at least one more experienced player to the wide receiver room.

If this name sounds familiar to you, it should. Brown verbally committed to Michigan State in 2019 before ultimately deciding on Nebraska. Brown was a high school quarterback that converted to wide receiver as he entered college.

At 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, Brown will step in as one of the smaller wide receivers on the MSU roster but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in speed and athleticism. While at Nebraska, Scott Frost said Brown tested at the team’s fastest runner in the 40-yard dash.

Brown had 16 catches for 191 yards last season in his time with the Cornhuskers. He’s appeared in 30 games and made 11 starts. Brown has two years of eligibility remaining. One area where Brown can add immediate value to this roster is in the return game. He handled some kick return and punt return duties for the Cornhuskers.

Mel Tucker is known for not promising roles to players. Brown is going to have to fight for playing time in a wide receiver room that features a lot of promising young players. For Brown to be willing to step into this type of position with no guarantee of the role, he’s ready to earn his spot.

It remains to be seen if this is the last addition Michigan State makes to the position. For the fans that were wanting the team to make a move, they got what they wanted. Now we have to wait and see how the pecking order shakes out.
