Michigan State football plays host to speedy Alabama WR transfer

After a tough end to the weekend, Michigan State football fans could soon hear some good news regarding the receiver room.

Michigan State football fans and players alike were stunned to hear that Keon Coleman was entering the transfer portal this past weekend.

The absence of MSU’s leading receiver from last season leaves a void in the receiver room that MSU is now potentially looking to address through the portal.

But the Spartans have hosted an Alabama receiver transfer that should help matters.

Tyler Harrell is an interesting prospect for the Spartans that could bring some serious juice to The Woodshed. Harrell has a blazing fast official 40 speed of 4.24. This would likely cement him as the quickest player on the field for MSU and speed is something that this team desperately needs at receiver.

Before transferring to Alabama, Harrell was at the University of Louisville. In the 2021 season, his speed allowed him to average a mind-numbing 29.1 yards per catch. For context, Keon Coleman led Michigan State in that category last year of wide receivers that had 10-plus receptions at 13.8 yards per catch. Losing size like Coleman had, but adding elite speed like Harrell’s would be ideal.

Unfortunately for Harrell his potential at Alabama went untapped due to a nagging foot injury. Harrell said of the injury, “Yeah the injury set me back. After I healed up, I was dealing with the same injury.”

Certainly in his visit with MSU, the staff will want to see how Harrell has progressed in his health.

Outside of Tre Moseley, the wide receiver room in East Lansing is relatively young and unproven. It could be great to add a veteran presence with this type of speed.
