New Michigan State football coach Jonathan Smith is working hard to make Nick Marsh know he’s a top priority.
New Michigan State football head coach Jonathan Smith has already hit the recruiting trail with early signing day quickly approaching. The crown jewel of the Spartans’ 2024 class is elite River Rouge wide receiver Nick Marsh and it was reported in a VIP article on Tuesday morning by 247Sports’ Allen Trieu that Smith will visit Marsh this week and an official visit is being scheduled. He was scheduled to visit Deion Sanders and Colorado but recently changed his mind.
Trieu says Jonathan Smith and the staff are scheduled to visit him on Friday and he’s already given his approval of the new head coach. The potential retention of receivers coach Courtney Hawkins will also be a huge factor in his pledge — read Trieu’s article for a good tidbit there.
Marsh’s recruitment has been interesting, to say the least. He originally committed to Michigan State and head coach Mel Tucker early on in the 2024 recruiting cycle only to decommit in March. It’s rare for a player to re-commit to a school but that is exactly what he did in July. The Spartans beat out Pitt, Kansas, and the perceived favorite Penn State.
After the firing of Tucker in September and the unknown future of Hawkins, many fans were worried about losing Marsh for a second time. Hawkins has been the anchor for Marsh and we have him to thank for keeping Marsh all this time.
Marsh is seemingly doubling down on his commitment to the Spartans at a very encouraging time. We are just a mere three weeks away from early signing day on Dec. 20 and just like everyone else, I hope to see him sign early so we can end this rollercoaster for the next great MSU wide receiver.
PS. Hey 247, can you just give him that fifth star already?
