It’s been a rough day for Michigan State football players as the team’s head performance dietician is moving on.
Amber Rinestine, Head Football Performance Dietitian for the Michigan State football team, announced this morning on Twitter that she is stepping away from the program.
Amber was hired in January of 2021 to lead the dietitian department for the entire football program. This meant working with each player individually to create a diet that fit their needs and help them accomplish with their bodies what they need to accomplish. Whether that be cutting weight, gaining weight or increasing muscle mass, Amber was responsible for helping each player out.
This is a big loss for the program as athlete’s diets have never been more important to their on field success than they are today. The same amount of time and energy is devoted to what a player is eating just like with what workouts or weightlifting the player should be doing.
MSU’s players including Darius Snow and Tre Mosley took to Twitter after this was announced to show their love and appreciation for everything Amber has done for the program:
Some may think think this isn’t a big deal, but I’m here to tell you that this is as big of a loss as any to the staff that MSU has faced this offseason. Amber was given a ton of credit two years ago when MSU went on the road and beat Miami in the extreme heat. Mel Tucker and players gave her a lot of praise publicly for all the hard work she put in to prepare them for that intense climate.
And if you are still having doubts about he departure meaning anything, take a look at this postgame video where the players are chanting her name in the locker room.
Thank you for everything, Amber. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
