Michigan State football missed out on another top target on Saturday as four-star Xadavien Sims picked Oregon.

Four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims has announced his commitment to Oregon.

Michigan State football was one of his five finalists which also included Vanderbilt, TCU, and Oklahoma. The Spartans were once thought to be the frontrunner to earn Sims’ commitment last year. In 2022, Michigan State had all the crystal ball predictions from 247Sports to earn his commitment, unfortunately, those did not come to fruition.

Two major staff changes to the program may have something to do with that. Former pass rush specialist Brandon Jordan left the program this year for the same job with the Seattle Seahawks. Marco Coleman, who was the defensive line coach at Michigan State, also left the program to take a job with his alma mater Georgia Tech. Both coaches were heavily involved in Sims’ recruitment, so their departure hurt Michigan State in this recruitment.

Sims currently has a visit scheduled to Michigan State for the weekend of June 2. However, that visit is up in the air as rumors are circulating that he may be canceling all of his previously scheduled officials. This news has not been confirmed, but a canceled visit would likely end Michigan State’s chances for good.

Michigan State’s 2024 class currently consists of three recruits. Four-star Jaylen Thompson headlines the class which also includes two three-star offensive linemen. Michigan State is hosting many recruits throughout the month of June and will likely begin adding to the class during those visits.

Michigan State missed out on a great recruit. It is now up to Mel Tucker and his staff to continue working hard to increase momentum in recruiting.
