Michigan State football will host some high-profile recruits this week before Saturday’s spring game/scrimmage.
The Easter holiday weekend has come to a close. The weather here in the mid-Michigan area is starting to break for the better. Football is on the horizon. Most Michigan State football fans are looking forward to this weekend’s spring game festivities to kick off that unofficial start to the season.
Before the spring game weekend kicks off, it was announced today that Michigan State will be bringing in a group of recruits before the game that could raise some eyebrows.
Michigan State On3 reporter Jason Killop reported today that four players from the 2024 and 2025 classes will take unofficial visits to East Lansing on April 10-11.
The group of four players are all from the state of Washington and are rated by On3 as all four-star recruits. These players are highly sought after and hold multiple offers from big-name schools.
The most notable player on the list would be running back Jason Brown from Seattle O’Dea High School in Seattle, Wash. He is listed at 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, and is currently ranked as the No. 4 running back in the 2024 cycle, per On3. He is also the State of Washington’s highest-ranked recruit in the 2024 class. Brown holds offers from many major schools, including USC, Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia, among others. The high-profile running back is currently listed as the No. 57 overall recruit in On3’s rankings, so getting him on campus is a good pull for Mel Tucker and Co.
The next player arriving in East Lansing is another Washington native, Brayden Platt. The linebacker from Yelm High School will be on campus on April 11 and was recently offered by MSU. Platt is currently listed as the No. 25 linebacker per On3 and the No. 4 recruit in Washington. Early front-runners for him are USC, Washington, and Oregon, but other major schools, including Michigan State, have made more recent offers.
Next on the list we have high school teammate of Brown, defensive back Kyan McDonald who is a four-star from Seattle O’Dea High School. He has held an MSU offer for a year now, so it’s nice to see Tucker still after his services. McDonald currently holds offers from Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and many others. He sits as the No. 34 cornerback in the 2024 class per On3 and the No. 6 recruit from Washington.
Last, but certainly not least, we have 2025 recruit T’Andre Waverly coming in from Mulkiteo, Wash. Waverly is listed currently as the No. 171 overall recruit in the country for 2025. He plays tight end and is currently listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. Waverly has not yet been offered by MSU but there is speculation he could pick up an offer this week. He does currently hold offers from Texas A&M, Penn State, and Michigan, among others.
Overall, getting four players from the state of Washington to come in for unofficial visits is a good sign. Tucker is continuing with his strategy of recruiting nationally. Whenever you see players willing to travel from across the country on their own dimes, it’s a good indication that there is decent interest in the program. Hopefully the recruiting staff can build some momentum with these players this weekend.
Also, look for MSU to have a big list of visitors this upcoming weekend for the spring game.
