The men’s Michigan State golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of regionals. It just needs to hold on to make the NCAA Championships.

The men’s Michigan State Golf team is hosting the NCAA Regional Tournament this weekend at Eagle Eye Golf Club and it has found itself in a great position to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Day 1 yesterday saw the Spartans post a team score of 12-under which was good enough for second place going into Tuesday’s second round. The Spartans did not play as well on Tuesday, but still shot a very good team total of 1-over, taking them to 11-under par for the tournament. The Spartans have slid back to fifth place at the conclusion of the second round.

The final round is tomorrow and MSU needs to finish no worse than fifth if they want to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Thankfully, MSU has some breathing room as they have a seven-shot advantage on sixth place Kansas State and Florida. Likely posting a similar score tomorrow would be enough to move on to the NCAA Championships.

Michigan State no longer has a realistic shot to win the regional as Georgia has a commanding lead on the field sitting at 28-under. Other schools in qualifying positions include Illinois at 18-under, Oregon at 15-under, and Texas at 12-under.

Taking Georgia out of the picture, Michigan State does have the ability to move up in the standings during the final round. But at the end of the day, all that is needed is a fifth-place finish which would send MSU to the NCAA Championships.

To follow along with live results tomorrow, head to the MSU men’s golf Twitter page where they will post a link to the live leaderboard in the morning.
