After a second straight solid performance to start the season, Noah Kim was named Big Ten offensive player of the week.
Michigan State fans will certainly welcome some positive news, and on Monday, they got some.
Noah Kim has been announced as this week’s Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week:
With the transfer of starting quarterback Payton Thorne, the quarterback battle opened up in East Lansing. While it seemed to come down to Noah Kim and Katin Houser, it appeared the former always had the slight edge.
Over the past two weeks, fans have begun to see exactly what the coaching staff saw in Kim. Equipped with a massive arm, Kim is a great deep-ball passer. Last year, deep shots were a missing element in the Michigan State offense, but by all accounts, it will be a staple of this team moving forward. The Spartans have a plethora of young talent in the wide receiver room. The benefit of having a deep room is that Kim has been able to spread the ball around and make the offense less predictable.
The 292 passing yards performance would’ve ranked as the third most yardage in the 2022 season. Michigan State only passed for three-plus touchdowns in three games last year. Based on what we’ve seen these first two weeks, it’s likely these statistics aren’t an anomaly. Fans can continue to expect an air raid offense that will feature both the arm talent of Kim and the upside of the wide receiver room.
A big hit to the Michigan State offense last season was not having a dominant run game. That prevented the passing game from being able to open up. With Nathan Carter ripping off big runs and looking dominant, it doesn’t appear this year’s team will have the same issue.
It’s safe to say the quarterback discussion in East Lansing is a closed case.
