Would’ve loved to see him succeed at MSU.

A few years after transferring from Michigan State football, Devontae Dobbs is looking for a new home once again.

Remember the hype surrounding Devontae Dobbs when he committed to Michigan State football?

It seemed like everyone and their brother were excited about Dobbs suiting up for the Spartans. He was the program’s top recruit in the 2019 class and the biggest win on the trail for Mark Dantonio in his second-to-last recruiting class. Dobbs came in with fellow Belleville blue-chipper Julian Barnett.

The two were expected to lead the program back to prominence after a two-year downslide. And then Dantonio retired suddenly which put their careers in question.

Dobbs and Barnett could’ve stuck it out with Mel Tucker but after one season with the new coaching staff, both decided to transfer. They were a package deal and ended up at Memphis. This came as a shock as they were both top-100 recruits just a couple of years earlier. Many believed they had Power Five talent.

Now, after two years at Memphis, Dobbs appears to be on the move once again.

After a quiet career at Memphis, Dobbs will be looking for a new program to call home. He played in five games in 2021 and the school’s website doesn’t list any game action for him in 2022.

From the looks of it, Dobbs is likely to transfer down once again, especially when you consider how late in the year he’s entering the portal and the fact that he doesn’t have much production to show for his four collegiate seasons.

Dobbs could have worked his way into a large role in East Lansing if he stuck around considering the offensive line has gone through some growing pains with injuries. But alas, he’s back in the portal and hoping to end his playing career on a high note.

He will always be one of the biggest ‘what if’ players at Michigan State.
