According to his social media, Nebraska receiver transfer, and former Michigan State football target, was in East Lansing on Tuesday.
Spring ball is over and that means it’s officially round two of the transfer portal for Mel Tucker and Michigan State football. The head coach has been pretty open about adding to his roster this offseason and we should see more addition (and subtraction) in the coming weeks.
In fact, we’re already seeing some transfer news rolling out of East Lansing.
On Tuesday, Hamp Fay announced he’d be leaving the program after being Tucker’s first quarterback commit in the 2021 class. He eventually moved to safety and then tight end before deciding to move on.
More news broke on Tuesday regarding the transfer portal, and this time it was regarding a potential addition. According to Alante Brown’s Instagram story, he was in East Lansing on Tuesday afternoon.
If that name sounds familiar it’s because he was once a Spartan commit. He was part of Michigan State’s 2019 class before “parting ways” with Mark Dantonio and the Spartans. Brown then signed with Texas Tech before moving on once again and signing with Nebraska ahead of the 2020 season.
Through his first two seasons at Nebraska, the speedy wideout had just six catches for 71 yards, but he had his best season in 2022 with 16 receptions for 191 yards.
After spring ball with the Cornhuskers, he decided to enter the portal.
Tucker and the Spartans seem to be at least somewhat interested if he’s back on campus and that would be an intriguing addition because he could not only add some receiver depth and become a home-run threat, but he could also aid the return game.
Will Tucker bring in a relatively unproven receiver from the portal? Honestly, I’d be a little surprised, but it wouldn’t be the worst addition in the world.
I think the receiving corps could use another proven body but the staff might like Brown’s upside.
This will be a recruitment worth watching.
