Michigan State football will be getting a visit from a highly-regarded 2024 running back prospect in the month of June.

Mel Tucker and Co. got some positive news on the recruiting front on Monday. Caden Durham, the No. 10 running back in the composite rankings on 247Sports, planned an official visit to East Lansing. He will be visiting Michigan State football officially on June 9.

Durham has held an offer from the Spartans since October of 2022. Overall, he has 34 offers to his name. Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, and the Spartans appear to be the front-runners as of now. It is worth noting that Durham has a few crystal balls logged for both LSU and Oklahoma on 247Sports, but it is a good sign that the Spartans are getting an official visit.

The four-star back is listed at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, and hails from Duncanville, Texas. He is a speedster for sure as also runs track at Duncanville High. He posted 100-meter times of 10.70 seconds and 10.72 seconds in 2022 and also qualified for the 2022 AAU Junior Olympics in 2022 where he ran the 100 meters this past August. Translation: he possesses the home run speed that MSU has been missing since the departure of Kenneth Walker III.

In his junior football season, Durham had 210 rushing attempts for 1,960 yards while adding 36 touchdowns. He also added nine catches for 93 yards and a receiving touchdown as well. That equates to an eye-popping 9.3 yards per carry.

Whether or not Michigan State has made up any ground in Caden’s recruitment battle is yet to be seen. It should be considered good momentum that he agreed to an official visit with the Spartans. So far, the Spartans are the only official visit Caden has confirmed. He did attend LSU’s Junior Day event back in January and has unofficially visited the Sooners once in 2022.

Tucker and Co. have a pretty decent track record of wowing recruits after getting them on campus. Hopefully this instance is no different. Landing a recruit of Durham’s caliber would go a long way in working to stabilize the run game for Jay Johnson’s offense.
